Introduction to SAP QM

SAP QM is also known as SAP Quality Management is responsible for managing track records on quality which is the core of any product-based enterprise. SAP QM system is a part of SAP R/3 system and is consolidated with other SAP modules like SAP Material Management i.e. MM, Production Planning i.e. SAP PP, and Plant Maintenance i.e. SAP PM. SAP QM basically an integral part of logistic management and it is used to perform functions such as quality planning, quality assurance, and quality control focusing on product worth. There are few key aspects of sap like Quality Planning, Quality Notifications, and Quality Inspection.

SAP QM- Business Processes

1. Quality Management in Procurement

  • SAP Quality Management is fully integrated with the purchasing and Inventory Management process.
  • It consists of receiving inventory wherein material is received upon the purchase order. Inspection lot is triggered if the material is flagged for quality check.
  • Quality results entered against master review features. Whether the issues are in/out of limits, based on that usage decision (accept/reject inspection lot) is taken.
  • The stock posting from quality to other stock levels need to be done after in the SAP system.

2. Quality Management in Production

  • SAP Quality Management is used to connect with the production and Inventory Management process.
  • It describes "In the process inspections" where the inspection lot is triggered on production order release.
  • In "inspection after production" the inspection lot is triggered after goods receipt is posted from the production order.
  • "In-process inspection" is not relevant to inventory whereas inspection after production includes stock posting from quality to other stock categories.
  • This process describes inspection order processing wherein quality results are entered into master inspection points. Usage decision ( accept/reject) taken depending on the quality results.

3.   Quality Notifications

  • In this process, you can see how errors found during a quality, inspection are examined and taken in an SAP quality notification.

  • To record the individual defect items and analyze the root cause of the defective items.
  • To mention the corrective actions to be taken that are identified after analyzing the problem in detail.
  • To track improving actions to be performed using the status management characteristics of notification.
  • In the quality notification, you capture all the activities and tasks that are performed as part of problem identification and to fix the issue.
  • You can make various standard reports related to defects and quality notifications in an SAP system.
